Nurturing Schools

Nurturing Schools

At the Point of Ayr Federation we are currently working towards the National Nurturing Schools Award.

We endeavour to create a nurturing ethos within our schools where every member of the school community feels valued. We ensure that positive relationships are built and modelled within the Point of Ayr Federation and all stakeholders feel safe within the school environment and community.

We base our ethos on the 6 Principles of Nurture, which are:

  • Children's learning is understood developmentally.
  • The classroom offers a safe base.
  • Nurture is important for the development of self-esteem.
  • Language is understood as a vital means of communication.
  • All behaviour is communication.
  • Transitions are significant in the lives of children.

Teachers work with the children in creating a open and supportive learning environment, where everyone is able to reach their full potential. We understand the importance of getting to know children as individuals and work hard in ensuring we meet the needs of everyone in an inclusive and nurturing environment. Within the Federation we work on emotions, Growth Mindset, and Wellbeing to equip children with the skills to thrive in life.
