Lunch Menus

School Lunches

Can my child have a school dinner?

Yes of course. Newydd provide our school dinners and they cost £2.80 per day for children in Years 5-6. Children from Reception-Year 4 are eligible to have lunch provided for them by Newydd Catering at no cost.

How do I pay for school dinners?

As a school we have now gone cashless and use school gateway for taking the payment of dinner money. Please register with School Gateway to make your payment. Should you require any help with this please contact the school office.

How do I get onto School Gateway?

Here is the link for School Gateway.

How do I order my child’s school dinner?

You can now pre-order your child's school dinner choice via the school gateway app.

Simply go into the School Gateway app, click your child's name, click lunch money then 'make or view meal bookings'.

You will be able to pre-order for the next day by picking which option they would like for their main and dessert.

You will be able to place orders for 3 weeks in advance. There is a cut-off time of 8am on the day to order a meal.

Your child will still be able to place their dinner order with their class in the morning, but pre-ordering will save time in class.
Any changes to pre-ordered meals for the children can be altered in school if need be.

What is currently on the dinner menu?

Each week, we will share the Newydd Primary School Lunch Menu for the week ahead via our school   page.

Am I eligible for Free School Meals?

Free School Meals are provided for pupils who's parents receive:

  • Income Support,
  • Income Based Jobseekers Allowance,
  • Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999,
  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance,
  • Child Tax Credit, provided they are not entitled to Working Tax Credit and their annual income does not exceed £16,190,
  • Guarantee element of State Pension Credit,
  • Working Tax Credit 'run-on' - the payment someone may receive for a further four weeks after they stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit or Universal Credit.
  • Universal credit(If earned income is included in the assessment of UC it must be less than £616.66)

Why is it important to apply?

If you are eligible to receive free school meals it is very important to your child’s school that you apply. The school can access funding for children who qualify for free school meals that will allow them to provide targeted support programs, buy equipment and resources etc.

If your child prefers to take a packed lunch or make other arrangements it is still important to register for free school meals so the school can access funding.

How do I apply?

You must complete a Free School Meals form. Should you require any help please contact the school office.

Universal Primary Free School Meals

UPFSM is part of the Co-operation Agreement between the Welsh Government and Plaid Cymru, which will see school meals being available to all primary school pupils for free over the next three years regardless of household income.

Welsh Government have given the commitment for a phased introduction of UPFSM to all primary school pupils by 2024 beginning with:

  • Reception pupils - September 2022
  • Years 1 and 2 – April 2023
  • Years 3 and 4 - September 2023
  • Years 5 and 6 - April 2024

All pupils in the appropriate year groups are qualified to receive UPFSM automatically. Parents and carers will not need to fill in an application form but will be asked by schools on a weekly basis, which days they would like their child(ren) to take up this offer.

Can my child bring in a packed lunch?

Of course. The children who bring in their own packed lunch will sit with their friends in the dinner hall. We ask that children bring in juice or water and not fizzy drinks. We help all children when needed with the opening of packaging as sometimes the wrappers can be quite tricky.

We ask, where possible that the packed lunch provided is balanced.
